ENTRAIN

— ENTRAIN has appeared at the CranJam more than any other band

— Boston Music Award-winning live act

Epic in sound and kaleidoscopic in vision, the eclectic Martha's Vineyard-based Entrain has been thrilling critics and fans alike since its inception. Formed and led by drummer Tom Major in 1993 .... praised for their ability to shift effortlessly between musical styles - from rock, blues, calypso and ska, to zydeco, jazz and funk - often within the same song. "The whole Entrain concept is based on the drums and infectious rhythms. Once we've got that.... anything goes, everything goes," explains Major. "The most important thing that we try to do with our music is bring everybody together in the spirit of peace, love, fun and a ton of drums!"

Entrain's goal is not just to be the biggest and the best, says Major. "We want to create music that makes people feel good. When we look out from the stage, all we see is smiling faces of all ages and bodies moving. You can't beat that feeling. At the same time if we can help to promote positive values and lifestyles... great! There's enough negativity in the world, let's spread a little joy around and watch how infectious it can be."

Hailing from Harwich

band members Matt Veary, Owen Van Sickle, and brothers Jake and Josh Poitras formed The Placeholders in the summer of 2016 while attending Monomoy Regional High School. With Matt and Jake growing up playing golf and baseball together and Josh tagging along, they became great friends, and eventually became close with Owen when they all competed on the high school golf and baseball teams together.

As all four boys also participated in the school band and the jazz band at the same time, their combined passions for music grew, and their previously-established friendships paved the way for an opportunity to take their involvement with music in a different direction. Since they all grew up listening to a wide variety of music with heavy Classic Rock influence, their library of covers includes an extensive list of favorites from the 60's through today.

Under the management of Vince Veary, a Cape Cod native and audio expert, The Placeholders have spent the last four years honing their on-stage sound to deliver entertaining, memorable performances across Cape Cod and Boston. All four members have studied at colleges and universities in Massachusetts (Holy Cross, Northeastern, Worcester State, and UMass Amherst); three have recently graduated and one will graduate this coming year.

catie flynn band

Catie Flynn is a singer songwriter born and raised on Cape Cod. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where she studied vocal performance and music business. Upon graduating from Berklee, Catie moved to Nashville, Tennessee. While in Nashville she toured with an Americana group and spent countless hours refining her songwriting skills.   Now back on the Cape, Catie can be seen playing locally

“Catie and her band bring energy and exuberant sound to her body of original songs and covers.”

Tarciso Alves’

Trio Let’s Vamos

Tarciso Alves’ Trio Let’s Vamos

Tarciso Alves’ Trio Let’s Vamos, a unique Brazilian-American musical collaboration based in Boston, MA, USA.  We play Forró Pé-de-Serra, an umbrella genre of Brazilian music, featuring rhythms such as Baião, Xaxado, Samba Matuto and many others. Forró became famous in the 1940s and ‘50s, with tunes steeped in the stories and culture of the Northeastern Dry Lands of Brazil. The major instruments are the accordion and voice, with melodies often influenced by the vocal calls (aboios) sung by the vaqueiros (brazilian cowboys) when herding cattle. Forró originated in the Sertão (Dry Lands), arid regions of Brazil, known for cattle farms and tradicional communities. Trio Let’s Vamos has been performing many festival in the Boston and New York areas.

The Drumma Queens of Cape Cod

The Drumma Queens of Cape Cod celebrate life’s rhythms. They are an all-women percussion ensemble that creates joyful noise and positive, healing vibrations wherever and whenever they perform. They drum, sing, dance and tell stories that create a memorable experience for their audiences.

"Everyone in the audience left {the performance} with a smile on their face"

SUNDAY

legends of boston rock music! These guys have been around for 50 years + (like me) and they still have the chops!!

The james montgomery blues band

For more than 50 years, James Montgomery has been front man, lead singer and harmonica player, bringing originals and covers of the blues to events like ours. I’m pretty sure that James and his band have played at every venue and festival that I’ve booked or been associated with over the years. Truly a legend.

The chuck mcDermott band

Chuck McDermott (with his 70s band, Wheatstraw), brought country into Boston’s rock scene. Along with my old friend, the late John Lincoln Wright, they won a huge following for ‘Americana’ music before anyone had thought up the name ‘Americana’. Chuck has had an extraordinary life full of adventures - music, family, environment, politics - (largely on the West Coast) and has retired from all but the music and returned to Boston’s South Shore. He brings his current band to Harwich to play our CranJam. More about him here
